After enduring a season last year with just six wins, the BlueJackets have begun this season with promise, winning two out of five matches -- a four-set victory over Lakeside Christian and a five-set thriller over Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate. Cookie Mitchell is in her first season, taking over the program for Shelby Thompson.

While the boys and girls swim team suffered defeats in their first two meets, BlueJackets coach Jan Browning is pleased with the way the season has started and appears to be progressing.

After opening the season with a close defeat to Carrollwood Day School, the BlueJackets have reeled off two convincing wins as they enter its toughest test of the season on September 18 when they face Lakeland Victory Christian, the 2014 Class 2A state champion.

The tournament, a team vs. team bracketed tournament, is hosted annually at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Disney World. Commonly referred to as "The Disney Duals" the tournament attracts club wrestling teams and competitors of the highest caliber from all across the country.

Brittany McGee '15 and Katie Barnett '17 compete in the Championship Division at the New Balance National Outdoor Track & Field Championships; Coach Barnhill named Coach of the Year for Boys and Girls Track by the Tampa Bay Times; Incoming senior Craig Watts, who is ranked as the No. 16 safety in 247Sports' high school football rankings, made a verbal commitment to the University of Wisconsin.

The 6-10 forward played in 79 games during the regular season in which the Warriors were a league-best 67-15. Speights, 27, averaged 6.4 points and 3.7 rebounds per game while playing 12.5 minutes per contest.

"Alex is soft-spoken but he is loud and clear when it comes to his running," said Farragut track coach Phil Barnhill, who was named as the Times' Coach of the Year. "We didn't know what to expect from him, but he worked hard and really improved throughout the season. He has a bright future."

Brittany McGee's four individual titles at the Class A track meet in Jacksonville on May 1 were instrumental in the Admiral Farragut Academy girls track team becoming the first bay area girls program to win a state title in almost 20 years.

The softball team began its 2015 campaign with a mission in mind – to reach its first state tournament in school history - and they almost did.

Spring is definitely in the air for the Farragut softball team. The Lady BlueJackets continued to etch their name in the history books as they advanced to the Class 3A Regional Finals after a 5-2 victory over Northside Christian. The next game is Friday, May 1 at 7 p.m.

For the first time in Farragut history the boys and girls Track & Field teams won the region championship which was held at Calvary Christian High School. Several athletes from Farragut won their respective events to help the girls win their team title with 115 points and the boys win theirs with 90.5 points.

This week, the Farragut baseball and softball teams will try to cap their successful seasons with equally impressive runs in the postseason. The baseball team already has secured its best season in over a decade while the softball team has continued its recent dominance.

The athletics banquet is Thursday, May 14 at 6:30pm. All JV and Varsity athletes are free but must sign up with Ms. Gonczar. Tickets for guests may be purchased for $10 in advance at the Ship's Store or $15 at the door.

To make up for the lack of a Senior Night for Boys and Girls Soccer at Farragut, Boys Soccer captain Mikey Tauber created an event at the end of school on March 25 that pitted the faculty and girls soccer team members versus the boys soccer team.

The Farragut lacrosse team wrapped up its 2015 season with a victory over Sarasota Military Academy. Other highlights of the year included the addition of the program's first female player, Veronica Levine. In addition, the team had an international feel to it with players hailing from the Bahamas, Canada, China, Panama, Switzerland, and the Ukraine. While other players came from states like Florida, Indiana, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania.

The Farragut baseball team is on pace to win more games this season than the past five years combined, under the guidance of first-year coach Tom Beck.

This past Saturday, Enmon (pictured) and McGee, despite starting their journeys for different reasons and at different periods in their life, cemented themselves in history on the same day, becoming the first Admiral Farragut Academy wrestlers to win state titles.
