Financial Aid

Admiral Farragut Academy is committed to attracting diverse, motivated, and talented students of strong character. We also believe enrollment should be open to all qualified applicants, not just to those who can pay full tuition. We offer several options for families in need such as payment plans, loans, and need-based assistance for those families who are willing to assume as much responsibility as their resources will allow for the tuition and fees.

Financial aid is awarded on a yearly basis from a limited budget, so we encourage those in need of financial aid to begin the process as early as possible. Families must reapply for financial aid each year. The amount of money awarded is not guaranteed and may differ from year to year based on need and availability of funds.

Need-Based Aid

Requests for need-based financial assistance are considered only after a student has received a letter of acceptance from the school and completed the steps below. Current Farragut families are given priority consideration for assistance and awards are made contingent on good financial standing. Awards are revoked should the account balance not be satisfied by the end of the academic year.

The award calculated by School & Student Services (SSS) is only a recommendation and does not necessarily represent the amount the family will be awarded. Admiral Farragut Academy's financial aid committee will discuss and decide on the amount awarded. Please note that it can take four to six weeks for Farragut to receive the recommendation report from SSS. Once a decision is made the family will be notified by letter from Farragut with the actual award. Due to the continuing increase in financial aid requests the committee's philosophy is to "spread the funds" and help as many families as possible.

Based on the information you provide in the Parents' Financial Statement (PFS), SSS will provide schools an estimated amount that your family can contribute to educational expenses. This helps schools make fair and objective financial aid decisions. Each school makes its own decisions, but uses SSS's calcuations as a starting point.

All required paperwork for the financial aid process must be submitted through the SSS with the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) by March 15th each year in order to be considered for award. Completed files will be reviewed in the order in which they are received.

Complete these steps

  • Go to the NAIS Financial Aid website
  • Complete the PFS using information available to you at the time and/or estimates
  • School Code for Admiral Farragut Academy is: 1100
  • Pay processing fee
  • Send a copy of the following to Admiral Farragut Academy:
    Your most recent IRS Form 1040 with all supporting schedules, corporate and or business/farm statements where applicable. If the most recent IRS Form 1040 is not complete, do not hold up the process. Provide the W2, if applicable, and/or other documentation and follow up with the 1040 when it is complete.

** A PFS and processing fee is required to be completed and submitted to SSS by each party if there is a non-custodial, divorced or separated parent. Tax return copies from each party must be sent to Farragut.

Florida Resident Scholarships

Available for families who have lived in Florida for a minimum of one (1) full year.

Go to website was created out of love and concern for children with learning disabilities and their families.  Secondly, it was created partly out of frustration at the lack of information available to parents to be able to make an informed decision about where their child will attend school.

Step Up For Students is an initiative of the Florida Tax Credit (FTC) Scholarship Program. The innovative program provides K-12 education scholarships for qualifying low-income students who are entering kindergarten through fifth grade OR who attended public school the previous year. The scholarships give low-income parents the opportunity to choose the K-12 school that best meets their children's needs. The scholarships cover up to a projected $4,335 for private school tuition and books or up to $500 in transportation costs to an out-of-district public school.

Sometimes financial assistance is not enough and families research the possibility of applying for a student loan. Below are links to lending institutions that offer low interest student loans for secondary school students. Admiral Farragut Academy receives no considerations (monetary or otherwise) from these or any other lending institutions.

  • prepGATE is a K-12 Education Loan Program
  • Effective May 1, 2014 Union Federal Savings Bank (UFSB) will no longer be accepting applications for the prepGATE loan program. They will process and fund applications submitted on or before April 30, 2014.

  • Your Tuition Solution is the education loan families have turned to at over 2,400 private K-12 schools nationwide. Schools choose Your Tuition Solution to provide a full range of convenient and flexible payment options for their families.

Veteran Benefits

Admiral Farragut Academy has earned approval from the State Approving Agency to receive veterans' educational benefits for eligible students, who have qualified for acceptance to AFA.

  • Student must be at least 16 years of age
  • Student must be the legal child of a deceased or 100% disabled veteran, who qualifies for educational benefits
  • Student must meet all admission requirement set down by Admiral Farragut Academy

Financial Aid FAQ's

How is eligibility for aid determined?

Prospective students must complete the enrollment process and be accepted first be offered enrollment enrolled before consideration can be given to financial assistance.

Like many independent schools, Admiral Farragut uses the services of School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS), a third party administrator, to assist in determining a family’s ability to contribute to educational expenses. Our Financial Aid Committee uses this assessment along with a Parent Financial Statement (PFS) and any additional information regarding special circumstances to make financial aid award decisions, taking into consideration our financial aid budget for any given year. As a result, Farragut's calculated parent contribution may differ from the SSS calculation.

For example, Farragut will consider the potential for income to be earned by an able, non-working parent who does not have children under the age of four at home.

How do I apply for financial aid?

New Families:

  1. You must first complete the admission process. Requests for financial assistance will be considered only after you have received notification of acceptance by Admiral Farragut Academy.
    -- Complete Elementary School's admissions process
    -- Complete Middle and High School's admissions process
  2. Once accepted to our school, apply online with SSS.
  3. Complete the PFS and submit it to the appropriate division office.

Returning Families:

  1. Apply online with SSS.
  2. Complete the PFS and submit it to the appropriate division office.

The Financial Aid Committee will begin the review and award process for new and returning families in the spring.

What will happen in future years? What if my finances change?

If there is continuing need, families are required to apply for aid each year their child is enrolled at Admiral Farragut Academy. Awards may be adjusted if the family's financial circumstances change.

If we do not apply/qualify for aid this year, can we apply again next year?

Families whose children begin attending Admiral Farragut Academy without financial aid will be given consideration in subsequent years if financial circumstances change dramatically.

Will these scholarships cover the full amount of tuition?
