Academy Mission

Provide a college preparatory environment that promotes academic excellence, leadership skills, and social development within a diverse community of young men and women.

We are committed to helping our students on their journeys of self-discovery by modeling integrity, self-discipline, perseverance and wellness while preparing them for  21st century challenges within a global society.

History: 1933 - Today

Founded in 1933 on the banks of the Toms River in Pine Beach, New Jersey, Admiral Farragut Academy was, and still is, a college-preparatory, military style school named after Admiral David Glasgow Farragut, the first U.S. Naval officer to rise to that rank. Over Farragut's first 12 years, the school became so popular that a second campus was purchased in 1945 on the shores of Boca Ciega Bay in St. Petersburg, Florida (the only campus open today). Since, the school has gone through many changes from accepting day students and girls to adding an elementary school. Today, the southern campus continues many of the naval high school traditions but most importantly creates well-rounded young men and women that are resilient and emotionally mature when they matriculate to college.

1933: Northern Campus Founded

Admiral Farragut Academy was founded in Pine Beach, New Jersey and opened as a boys only military and college preparatory boarding school serving grades 5-12 (Middle & High School). It was located in an old hotel called the "Pine Beach Inn" on Toms River.

David Glasgow Farragut

The school is named after David Glasgow Farragut (July 5, 1801 – August 14, 1870) who was a flag officer of the United States Navy during the American Civil War. He was the first rear admiral, vice admiral, and admiral in the United States Navy. He is remembered in popular culture for his order at the Battle of Mobile Bay, usually paraphrased: "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!" by U.S. Navy tradition.
