School Uniforms

How to Purchase Uniforms

All uniforms must be purchased from the Admiral Farragut Academy Ship's Store. 

Ship's Store 
The school's uniform store is located on campus on the east side of Farragut Hall next to the high school office.

Ship's Store Hours

  • 7:30 AM - 8:00 AM
  • 12:00 PM - 1:50 PM
  • 2:50 PM - 3:45 PM
Students should schedule an appointment at the Ship's Store for a uniform fitting and purchase before the first day of school. Please allow up to 2 hours time for the full fitting and preparation for any alterations necessary. 

Lucky Bag
The Lucky Bag is a used uniform store located in the Ship's Store, run by the Parents' Group.

Lower School Uniforms

Academic Uniform

  • Navy polo shirt (shirttails are to be tucked in at all times)
  • Khaki pants or shorts for boys and/or skorts for girls
  • Solid brown leather belt is to be worn by all 1st-7th grade students if there are belt loops (students in PreK-K are not required to wear belts)
  • White ankle or no show socks
  • Tennis shoes
    • Shoe laces must be white, gray, or black in color
    • No flashing lights nor should they be bright colors or high tops
    • Example of a high top

Standards for Hair

  • Boys' haircuts must meet the following specifications - closely cropped around the sides and back, the back tapered not "blocked", maximum of 3 inches on top, neatly trimmed and combed, and hair must not extend below the eyebrows. 
  • Girls need to wear hair close to the head.  If hair is long enough, it needs to be worn in a ponytail.  Hair that is not long enough for a ponytail needs to be worn off the face.

P.E. Uniform

  • PreK-3rd grade students wear their regular uniform and do not change into the P.E. uniform
  • Gold physical education t-shirt with AFA logo (4th-7th grade students)
  • Navy physical education athletic shorts with AFA logo (6th & 7th grade students)

Upper School Uniforms

Academic Uniforms: Upper School

Students in 8th-12th grade wear Naval-inspired military uniforms with pride. All uniforms must be purchased in the Ship's Store. Different uniforms are worn on different days of the week:

Salt & Peppers

Salt and Pepper Uniform

  • Black pants
  • Black belt
  • White collared shirt with name tag
  • Black garrison cap*
  • Black shoes

Tuesday - Thursday
Navy Service

  • Black pants
  • Black belt
  • Khaki collared shirt with name tag
  • Black garrison cap*(not pictured)
  • Black shoes

Travel Gear

Travel Gear Uniform

  • Khaki shorts or black pants
  • Khaki or black belt
  • Blue AFA polo shirt
  • White ankle or now show socks
  • Closed-toed shoes

*Garrison caps are worn only when cadets are outside.
*Ribbons and awards are worn on the Salt & Pepper uniform only.
*Uniforms may be worn on alternate days for field trips, half days, etc. 

Shoes: Students must wear black uniform shoes (available at the Ship’s Store) for the Navy Service and Salt & Peppers uniforms. Typically, on Fridays and during field trips students wear the Travel Gear uniform with which they are allowed to wear close-toed shoes such as black, brown, white, or grey boat shoes or athletic shoes.

Physical Education & Physical Training Gear
A separate P.E. or P.T. uniform of a gold AFA t-shirt (tucked in) and navy blue athletic shorts (worn at natural waist) and white socks is worn during those classes.

Boarding Student Uniforms

On campus, evenings and weekends: Farragut P.E. gear

Off campus: Appropriate civilian clothing

Athletic Team Uniforms

The athletic team uniforms pictured above are provided by the Athletic Department. Athletes may need to purchase additional required items such as hats, shoes, socks, etc.
