Meet Jack
Posted 06/13/2012 04:34PM

Hometown:  Gulfport, FL via Boston, MA

Grade:  8th, I've been at Farragut for 8 years

How did you and your parents hear about Farragut?  We moved here in 2004 from Boston and my parents looked for a private elementary school and they loved Farragut. My mother was in the military and she really liked the military part of it.

Why did you and your parents choose Farragut?  My parents loved the elementary school and the fact that it was elementary through high school so my older sister and I wouldn’t have to go to two different schools.

Favorite thing about Farragut:  The people

Sports and activities:  Varsity Golf, basketball, baseball (my favorite), forensics, and NJHS.

The students:  Very caring and always there for you. True friends.

The teachers:  Teach with hands on projects and are here to help you. They come in early for tutorial periods for extra help everyday.

Greatest achievement at Farragut:  Being on the varsity golf team in 7th and 8th grade and being moved up to the varsity baseball team in 8th grade.

Advice you'd give a new student: Don’t be afraid to reach out to students or teachers. Everyone is really nice here.

Summer Plans: I am going to a 2 week away camp near Orlando then a baseball camp. The rest of the time I plan to hang on the beach with my friends and go boating with my family.

Song playing on your iPod:  "We are Young" by Fun

Favorite food in the Mess Hall:  Pizza

Place I'd love to explore:  Greece

In 10 years I see myself:  In the Coast Guard. I plan to do as much as I can in the High School NJROTC program to help me get there.

Describe Farragut in one word:  Caring

Favorite Class & Teacher:  Mr. Barnhill (Math)

Secret Talent:  I am a Chinese baton juggler. My parents bought the baton set for me at Busch Gardens years ago and I am really good!

Who is your best friend?  Philip (which is my middle name too). We have been at Farragut together since 2nd grade. We both play on the baseball team and we hang out together all the time.

I can't live without:  Music

At the school's waterfront:  I love to sail, I started sailing at Farragut in 5th grade. I got my QBH (Qualified Boat Handler) license in 6th grade and now have my QM3 (higher level). I plan to participate in the SCUBA program next year in the High School.

Uniform or no uniform?  Uniform. I like it, I feel like it gives you responsibility.

Where I hang out on campus:  The 8th grade deck!

How do you think the military aspect will help you in the future?  It gives you a routine and makes you learn responsibility. Plus I want to go to the Coast Guard Academy and even if I don't it still teaches you good life lessons.

On the weekends:  I hang out with friends, go to the beach, and go boating. Being in St. Petersburg, we are lucky to be near a lot of professional sports teams, (Rays baseball, Lightning hockey and Buccaneers football) so I go to a lot of sporting events.
