Howard Sakolsky '47 takes Alumni Gatherings to the road

Howard Sakolsky '47 is on a mission.  Equiped with a cell phone, internet connection, and his motor coach, Howard is reaching out to our Alumni Community one stop at a time, literally.  Every summer, Howard hits the road, to travel the U.S. in his motor coach.  This year is a little different.  Howard asked us to provide him with names and numbers of alumni that are within a regional area of his travels in an effort to say hello, let them know what is going on at AFA, and to share a bite.

Howard has visited New Orleans, La, Dallas, Tx, and the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Co thank to COL Rick LoCastro '84, Base Commander of the USAFA

A Longtime Friend to AFA Passes On- Julia Masciangelo

A Message from Bill Masciangelo, Jr.

Family and Friends, on January 2nd, at 7:00 am, Mom departed this life and joined my dad and other saints in Heaven.  May she and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace. She had been under full hospice care for the week prior to her passing. During the last two months she had an opportunity to enjoy a visit with her brother and great grandchildren during and after Christmas. She also fully participated in her 90th birthday (21 November), Thanksgiving Dinner and Christmas. It was such a blessing for her to be able to enjoy these events during the last weeks of her life; and also for me to have the opportunity to be with my mom during these last weeks and days.

There will be a celebration of her life held at New Hope UMC in Hertford, NC this coming Spring at a date and time to be determined within the next two weeks.

Julia asked that in lieu of flowers, that contributions be made to the William R Masciangelo, Sr. Student Enrichment Fund C/O The Admiral Farragut Academy Foundation,

501 Park St N., St Petersburg, FL 33710-9970. (CLICK HERE TO MAKE YOUR GIFT ONLINE)

Recognition of our Military Alumni

We continue to be aware of the men and women actively serving our country through their military service.  We owe a huge debt of gratitude to those who are keeping watch to ensure our freedom.

The Alumni & Development Office has created an online form for our Military alumni to fill out.  Please CLICK HERE for the form.  If you are aware of any classmates serving our country please email alumni@farragut.org to help us update our records.  We are keeping a roster of alumni, family and friends of AFA who need to be in our thoughts and prayers.

Remember these men and women, support them and pray for their safe return.

We thank you for making this a successful year for our Alumni Community

In 2009 we visited nearly 500 alumni and friends at Farragut events around the country.  The year started with our 75th Anniversary in April and was followed by the Carlos Urhbach Memorial Golf Tournament in Miami.  In October we hosted 112 alumni for the Annual Homecoming, where our football team brought a win to Farragut!  Next we attended a gathering in Nantucket this at the home of Ed and Wanda DeSeta '67, which was followed by a Holiday Party in Richard and Luba DeWitt's home.  The year ended in Philadelphia with a dinner at the Union League of Philadelphia and the Army/Navy Game at the Lincoln Financial Field.

Our 2nd Annual Philadelphia and Army Navy Gathering Was A True Success

Joining at one of the most prestigious clubs in the nation, the Union League of Philadelphia is an incredible setting to gather nearly 70 AFA Alumni in December on the weekend of the 110th Army Navy Game.  With the words of COL Rick LoCastro '84, Base Commander of the USAFA, we were able to gather alum from 1945-2009 for a wonderful evening.  Thanks to all of those that attended and we look forward to seeing you next year, December 10-11, 2010.

New Alumni President Elected

The AFA Alumni Association held its annual brunch and by the bylaws associated with the Association, the gathering group of alumni nominated and elected Dr. Albert (Butch) Andrion '79 as the President Elect of the Admiral Farragut Academy Alumni Association.
