Why Give?
Voluntary contributions to Admiral Farragut Academy provide an opportunity for AFA parents, grandparents, alumni, alumni parents, faculty and staff and friends of the school to take an active role in supporting the school's operation.
Contributions to Admiral Farragut Academy through campaigns such as the Annual Fund provide a means for donors to make a tax deductible contribution to AFA (a 501(c)(3) organization) which keeps tuition from bearing the full cost of educating each student, thereby keeping tuition increases at a minimum each year and helping us to maintain the social and economic diversity of the Academy.
Gifts to the Annual Fund can be directed in support of the following:
- S.T.E.M. Iniative (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math)
- Classroom Needs
- Athletics
- Faculty Professional Development
Contributions to the Admiral Farragut Academy Foundation (a separate 501(c)(3) organization from the Academy) additionally allows donors to direct their contribution for specific endowed support for initiatives including: Funding of Academic Chairs by subject, funding of scholarship endowments as well as contributing to endowed funds to support the upkeep, maintenance and program needs of departments including Athletics and Science
We are sometimes asked why we fundraise - wouldn't it be better to run the school like a business?
The Independent School economic model is very different from that of a "for-profit" business. Schools educate students. We do not have an income-generating product. Tuition and gifts from people who support the educational program we provide serve as our income stream. Additionally, the tuition that would be necessary to fund our current level of education would further restrict the number of families who could afford to attend. This would be counter-productive to AFA's commitment to maintain a diverse student body.
