Admission for International Students

We will try to make the application and enrollment process as easy as possible for you, however it is important that you read this entire page and complete each step thoroughly.
1. Application and $100.00 non-refundable application fee - Complete the application form carefully, in all respects. Please print clearly or complete online.
2. Previous 3 years of official school transcripts - Transcript(s) should include curriculum information from your previous school and how it compares to the American system. Transcript(s) must be translated into English. We need both translated and untranslated versions of your transcripts.
3. Recommendation letters from most recent Math and English teachers - Teachers may submit their recommendation forms to you, scan, fax or mail them separately.
4. Interview - A campus tour and personal interview are expected, however, a Skype (www.skype.com) interview may be arranged if a campus visit is not possible.
5. Test scores
International applicants from non-English speaking countries are required to demonstrate competency in English in one of the following ways:
SLEP - Secondary Level English Proficiency Test.
TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language (AFA school code: 1970)

New 11th grade students must qualify for the advanced ESOL class.
The above are suggested class placements, however, final decision will be at the discretion of the High School Division Head, the ESOL Director, and the ESOL instructor.
6. Proof of Financial Responsibility - Family must provide documentary evidence that sufficient funds are or will be available to defray all expenses during the entire period of anticipated study. Example: Pay stubs or W2 form.

Financial Responsibilities
I-20 information - A deposit of $9,600 ($9,000 - tuition and $600 - enrollment fee) is required before we will send out the I-20.
Payment due in full before enrollment - Payment must be deposited by wire transfer, check or by an arrangement made with the Business Office.
Medical Insurance
Proof of Medical insurance through a United States based insurance carrier is required: AFA will purchase medical insurance for any student that arrives without it, at a cost of approximately $800 for the school year. Coverage begins once the student moves on campus and ends the last day of the school year. Coverage does not cover summer vacation.
Additional Documents needed
A copy of students' birth certificate and/or passport, accurate vaccination record from birth, recent physical examination and TB Test by a medical physician. Vaccinations and a physical examination is required before the student may attend classes.
