Admissions

Procedures

AFA is not a therapeutic school and will not consider applicants with current substance abuse and/or behavioral problems.

Admiral Farragut Academy has a "rolling" admissions policy, so we review potential applicants for the current school year as well as the next school year on a year-round basis.

  1. If you have not already done so, contact the Admissions Office to express your interest in Admiral Farragut Academy or complete an online admissions inquiry.

  2. Complete our application online or download the application in PDF format and submit it to our office with the $150 application fee. If you need a hard copy of the application, please call our office or complete the online inquiry form and we will mail an admission packet to you. We do accept the Association of Boarding Schools common application (available at www.schools.com) but you must also submit all of AFA’s other application materials.

  3. Call the Admissions Office to schedule a campus visit. Appointments are available Monday through Friday during the academic day and will include a tour of our campus and an interview, as well as the opportunity to meet with a specific coach or program director upon request. Visits generally take about two hours. Shadowing is required for our Lower Division applicants and available (but not required) upon request for Middle and Upper Division applicants. Shadowing in the Middle and Upper Divisions is only available on Tuesdays and only with advanced notice.

  4. If you plan on registering your student to take the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT), registration information is available online at www.ssat.org. We will also consider other testing, such as the PSAT or the SAT, ERB, Stanford Achievement or certain State Competency Tests (FCAT, e.g.) - please consult with our office to determine which tests are most appropriate given your individual circumstances. Our international applicants must submit TOEFL or SLEP scores.

  5. Distribute the Transcript Release and Teacher Recommendation Forms, and ask that all forms be returned directly to Admiral Farragut Academy as soon as possible.

  6. If you are a candidate for financial aid, please refer to our financial aid policy or you may contact LCDR Jeffrey L. Magnoli, Director of Admissions and Financial Aid, at 727-384-5500 x221 or jmagnoli@farragut.org with any questions you may have.

  7. We encourage you to stay in touch with the Admissions Office to check on the status of your application and supporting materials. We will notify you when your application file is complete and ready for review. Decision announcements for the new school year begin in early February and all subsequent decisions will be made as an applicant’s file is completed and reviewed. Wait Pools are established at grade levels that are fully enrolled. For those who may apply for financial assistance, the earlier your application file is completed the better as there is a limited amount of financial assistance monies.
