Anita Hensley,
Head of Lower Division

Welcome to AFA!

Thank you for visiting the Admiral Farragut Academy Lower Division website.

Lower Division strives to provide a positive and enriching learning environment. Students are provided with a solid foundation of skills in the academic areas along with developmental activities to enhance the emotional, social, and physical areas of growth. A challenging and complex curriculum with opportunities to become more of an independent learner contributes to our success.

The Lower Division curriculum is designed to encompass academic excellence. With the diversity of individual learning styles, our curriculum incorporates audio, visual, and tactile opportunities that enrich the fundamentals of reading, writing, and arithmetic. To enhance these opportunities, both individual and group learning situations are provided. By learning to examine issues from multiple perspectives, and from the viewpoints of several disciplines, our students become independent learners by applying their own style of thinking, learning, and imagining.

Building Character

In our classrooms, we teach our students the fundamental traits of leadership skills, courage, trustworthiness, duty, fairness, and caring. The Lower Division teachers at Admiral Farragut Academy are dedicated to teaching and empowering their students to take responsibility for themselves by encouraging these character traits through positive reinforcement and modeling. Students are provided with the tools that enable them to achieve their leadership potential both now and in the future.

A Learning Environment

Admiral Farragut Academy enhances the social development of students by creating a learning environment, which seeks to nurture relationship skills, build critical thinking skills, and foster social awareness. During the academic day, students are encouraged to participate in peer tutoring, lead class meetings, and work along with other students within a group setting. These opportunities help students with various personality styles engage and become successful, contributing members of the group. Physical education classes offer team-building strategies, cooperative play, and aid in the development of sportsmanship. Growth as an individual continues after the academic day with the offering of various after-school clubs, team sports, and community service clubs such as Earth Force and Jr. Service Club. We believe that caring and productive citizens develop best through shared life experiences and in an atmosphere that is diverse.

Admiral Farragut Academy also offers an Extended Day Program for the convenience of parents who may have conflicting schedules.

Please feel free to email me or the admissions department if you would like any further information.

Sincerely,

Anita Hensley
